Chicago MVA highway response, 1-23-16
This is what Steve Redick had to say:
A short while ago, there was an incident involving a car accident near the intersection of EB JFK and Natoma. When I got there, I found out that no one was actually pinned inside the vehicle as initially reported. However, at least one person was rushed to a nearby trauma center. The scene looked pretty serious, but let's hope the injuries weren’t too severe. It was quite a sight to see how they managed to block off the area and keep everything under control.
Here are some photos I took from the scene. You can really get a sense of the chaos and the efforts made by emergency responders. These images capture the intensity of the situation, with fire trucks and paramedics working hard to ensure everyone’s safety.

The whole thing played out quickly, but it was clear that the emergency services did an excellent job handling everything. I stayed around for a bit to make sure everything was under control before heading home. If you live in the area, it’s always good to be prepared for situations like this. Stay safe out there!
Fuel Dispenser Mechanical Accessories – Classification Overview
Â
Mechanical accessories are the core structural and functional components that ensure the reliable operation, safety, and durability of fuel dispensers. These parts are primarily responsible for fuel delivery, flow control, leak prevention, and physical support. Fuel dispenser mechanical accessories can be classified by function, installation location, material type, and application environment.
Â
1. By Function:
• Fuel Nozzles:
Manual or automatic shut-off nozzles designed for controlled and accurate fuel dispensing.
• Fuel Hoses:
Flexible, pressure-resistant hoses for safe fuel flow between the dispenser and vehicle tank; available in single or vapor-return types.
• Breakaway Couplings:
Safety devices that disconnect in case of excessive tension, preventing fuel spills and equipment damage.
• Swivels:
Allow for flexible nozzle movement, reducing hose wear and improving user convenience.
• Flow Meters:
Measure the volume of fuel dispensed; available in gear, vane, or piston types.
• Filters and Strainers:
Remove impurities from fuel to protect internal components and maintain fuel quality.
Â
2. By Installation Location:
• External Components:
Nozzles, hoses, boots, and breakaways—located on the outside of the dispenser, used directly by the customer.
• Internal Components:
Flow meters, filters, valves, pulleys, and structural brackets—housed within the dispenser body.
• Base and Mounting Parts:
Include foot plates, enclosures, seals, and frames that provide support and structural stability.
Â
3. By Material Type:
• Aluminum Alloy:
Lightweight, corrosion-resistant components for nozzles and housings.
• Stainless Steel:
Durable and suitable for harsh environments, used in valves, filters, and structural supports.
• Rubber and Composite Materials:
Used in hoses, seals, gaskets, and anti-static components for safety and flexibility.
Â
4. By Application Environment:
• Standard Fueling Stations:
General-purpose accessories designed for daily retail use with gasoline or diesel.
• High-Flow or Truck Stations:
Heavy-duty components such as large-diameter hoses and high-capacity nozzles for commercial vehicles.
• Cold or Harsh Climates:
Specially treated accessories with anti-freeze, anti-corrosion, or enhanced sealing features.
Â
All fuel dispenser mechanical accessories are manufactured to meet industry safety standards, ensuring long service life, operational accuracy, and compatibility with international fuel dispenser systems.
