Fire service loses a friend, Wayne Stuart

Wayne L. Stuart passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at his home in Orland Park, where he had lived for the past three decades. Prior to that, he resided in Calumet City. Wayne was a retired firefighter who began his career in Calumet City before retiring as a lieutenant from the Skokie Fire Department after over 40 years of dedicated service. Even after retiring, Wayne remained active, working as a reliable and trusted driver for Kurtz, Anderson, and Goodale Funeral Homes, assisting at countless funerals and warmly welcoming families. He was also an active member of the Orland Park Senior Citizen Advisory Committee. Wayne is survived by his beloved wife Sandra Stuart; his sister Barbara Stuart; nephews John (Dr. Mary) Fitzgibbon and Scott (Lindsay) Fitzgibbon; great-nieces and great-nephews Kadyen, Sean, Olivia, and Brad; and a sister-in-law, Barbara (Patrick) Fitzgibbon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Helen Stuart, and an infant daughter, Stacey Stuart. Due to the ongoing health pandemic, Wayne's services were held privately. It's hard to put into words how deeply this loss affects those who knew him. Wayne was more than just a firefighter; he was a pillar of strength and kindness within the community. Friends from the Skokie Fire Department posted heartfelt tributes online, remembering him as a dedicated public servant who gave his all during his time there. From June 22, 1982, to September 25, 2007, Wayne served the Village of Skokie with honor and distinction. His colleagues expressed their condolences and shared memories of a man who always went above and beyond in both his professional and personal life. In addition to his work, Wayne found joy in helping others, whether it was through his involvement with senior advisory groups or simply being there for his family. He had a way of making everyone feel valued and appreciated. It’s clear that Wayne left an indelible mark on those around him, and his absence will be felt profoundly by all who were fortunate enough to know him. If you wish to honor Wayne's memory, consider visiting our Tribute Store to send flowers to his family or plant a tree in his name. Let us come together to celebrate his life and keep his spirit alive in our hearts.
