Autodesk ushers in the future of AECO with advances in AI and new data model API
The construction industry has long been tangled up in complex processes and fragmented technologies. As we tug at the threads of project schedules, timelines tighten; when we pull at supply chains, costs skyrocket. Disconnected data between project stages creates bottlenecks, leading to delays, rework, and unnecessary waste.
It's time to untangle this knot and fundamentally transform how we design and build the physical world. Enter Autodesk’s Design and Make Platform, which offers a cloud-connected ecosystem where artificial intelligence can help extract valuable insights from your project data. This platform facilitates early, collaborative, and confident decision-making, ensuring data flows seamlessly from design to construction and into operations.
We're thrilled to unveil how these advancements come together at Autodesk University (AU) 2023.
One of the key highlights is our AI-powered solutions spanning the entire lifecycle of the built environment. We see AI as a tool that amplifies human creativity, automating mundane tasks and enabling teams to focus on more meaningful work. Whether it’s predicting flood maps using the new ML Deluge Tool in InfoDrainage or automating the drafting process with Markup Assist in AutoCAD, our AI capabilities are designed to streamline workflows and enhance productivity.
Take drainage design, a critical aspect of every project. The ML Deluge Tool predicts flood maps quickly and accurately, allowing civil engineers to focus on creating sustainable and resilient drainage schemes. For sewer asset inspections, we’re exploring the integration of VAPAR’s AI image technology into Info360 Asset, which automatically flags issues in pipes, saving operators significant time and reducing costs.
In May, we introduced Autodesk Forma, featuring AI-powered predictive analyses that enable rapid iterations during the initial planning stages. Tools like Rapid Noise Analysis and Rapid Wind Analysis offer insights into how buildings interact with their surroundings, while Rapid Operational Energy Analysis helps architects optimize energy efficiency.
But AI doesn’t stop there. In AutoCAD 2024, Smart Blocks Replacement leverages machine learning to suggest block replacements, making the search process faster and more intuitive. Additionally, Construction IQ, part of Autodesk Construction Cloud, helps construction teams identify risks and improve safety on-site by analyzing issues and observations.
At AU, we also shared exciting updates to the Autodesk Data Model, which underpins our Design and Make Platform. This new data model API is now in public beta for Revit and will eventually support Civil 3D and other design applications. By offering granular, accessible data, it empowers teams to deliver timely, structured data to the right people, create user-friendly experiences, and customize workflows to meet diverse needs.
Looking ahead, we’re committed to hybrid workflows across Forma, Construction Cloud, and third-party applications. Our goal is to drive the industry toward a more collaborative and successful future. For instance, we’re working with companies like Trimble and Nemetschek to enhance interoperability and streamline data sharing.
Imagine identifying the common traits of successful projects and replicating them—or understanding pitfalls to avoid in underperforming ones. Powered by AI, your data can provide these insights and more, connecting all teams involved in design, construction, and operations.
We invite you to explore the live and on-demand classes at AU. Among the highlights, Autodesk Workshop XR offers an immersive design review experience, enabling teams to collaborate virtually and understand designs at a human scale. Another notable project is The Phoenix, an affordable and sustainable housing initiative in California that leverages AI-powered insights to reduce costs and environmental impact.
As we continue to innovate, remember that Autodesk is here to support you throughout the design, construction, and operational lifecycle. Join us in building a unified AECO environment that maximizes the potential of AI.
Please note that this communication includes forward-looking statements about Autodesk AI and the Design and Make Platform. These statements reflect our current plans based on known factors but are subject to change. For more details, refer to our SEC filings.
