Commercial shipping is the main application area of ​​the 175D engine. Launched during the Hamburg show in Germany in 2014, the aircraft was optimized for use in ferryboats, offshore supply vessels, tugboats and workboat propulsion systems. At the same time, the machine can also be used in marine generators.
Currently, several engines and generator sets are running on eight test machines, both in IMO Tier 2 and Tier 3 modes, with sustained durability testing exceeding 1,000 hours, and special extreme environmental tests that have been tested for overload and overspeed.
Lex Nijsen, head of the four-stroke ship business at Mann, said, "These tests have been very successful. We are currently producing a number of engines for multiple projects and we are expected to serve a sea in Europe in the coming months. The ship delivered the first of the four machines in the series."
The four MAN175 engines will be used for diesel-electric propulsion. The power of a single engine is 1920 kW and 1800 rpm. The annual operation time is expected to reach 4000-5000 hours, which meets IMO Tier 3 regulations.
Another project is the two MAN 175 engines for mechanical propulsion of a two-body passenger ship, each with an engine power of 2,220 kW, which will drive a fixed-pitch propeller. The catamaran will operate in Asia and will operate for 4,000 hours a year and is expected to be delivered in 2017.
It is reported that the MAN 175D engine is equipped with a common rail fuel injection system, using a high-efficiency MAN turbocharger and an engine configuration control system to meet IMO Tier 2 pollution emission requirements. The IMO Tier 3 version is compact and comes with a modular selective catalytic reduction system developed by Mann.
