During the Eleventh Five-Year Period, the installed capacity of wind power continued to double

The report pointed out that in recent years, China's wind power industry has continued to develop rapidly, and during the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” period, the installed capacity of wind power has doubled for five consecutive years and it has become the world's largest wind power installed capacity. In 2010, the national wind power generation amounted to 49.4 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 78.9% year-on-year, accounting for 1.17% of the country's total electricity generation. The average annual wind power utilization time was 2047 hours. From January to June 2011, the national wind power generation amounted to 42.9 billion kWh, an increase of 81.1% year-on-year, accounting for 1.94% of the total power generation of the above-scaled power plants in the country; and the average annual use of wind power was 1,252 hours.

The report also pointed out that with the rapid development of wind power, the impact of large-scale wind power grid integration on the safe operation of power grids has become increasingly apparent. The lack of co-ordination of wind power construction planning, technical level and product quality of wind power equipment needs to be improved, technical standards for wind power grid integration and detection work lag, and weak design, construction, operation and dispatch management of wind farms have become the key factors that restrict the development of wind power security. In 2010, there were 80 wind turbine off-grid accidents across the country, including one off-grid accident with 100,000 to 500,000 kilowatts of wind power output, and one off-grid accident with wind power output exceeding 500,000 kilowatts. In January-August 2011, there were 193 wind turbine off-grid accidents across the country, including 54 loss-of-grid accidents with a loss of 100,000 to 500,000 kilowatts of wind power, and 12 accidents involving a loss of wind power that exceeded 500,000 kilowatts. .

It is understood that China's wind energy resources are abundant and the potential for the development of wind energy is huge. According to relevant data, China's land-based wind energy resources can be developed by 2.38 billion kilowatts, and offshore wind energy resources can be developed by about 200 million kilowatts. China's wind energy resources are relatively concentrated, and the development of potential wind energy resources in North China, northeast and northwest and southeast coastal areas and coastal islands in the “Three North” region accounts for about 80% of the country’s total. The geographical distribution of wind energy resources and coal resources has a high degree of coincidence, and it is in reverse distribution with the electric power load.
