Still & Box Alarm in Chicago, 2-11-17 (part 1)
This message comes from Eric Haak:
Here's a quick update from a still and box alarm that went down early Saturday morning (February 11) in Chicago. The 15th Battalion was the first unit to arrive on the scene and reported seeing light smoke coming from a large, four-story, fire-resistant warehouse measuring 600 by 200 feet. Just seven minutes later, the 15th Battalion updated their status, stating they were now dealing with heavy smoke inside the building. They requested a full box alarm, but it turned out to be nothing more than a vehicle fire. The Mobile Ventilation Unit (MVU) was eventually called in to help clear the lingering smoke.
Attached are some photos I took during the incident. In one of them, you can see Chicago Fire Department Engine 39 pulling up to the scene. Another shot shows heavy smoke billowing out of the warehouse, giving a clear sense of the intensity of the situation. There’s also a picture featuring a probationary firefighter hard at work, which is always inspiring to see. Other images capture the teamwork and coordination between firefighters as they tackle the blaze. One photo highlights Engine 65 arriving on the scene, while another focuses on a lieutenant directing operations. For those interested in specialized equipment, there's a shot of MVU 923 in action, helping to manage the smoke and ensure safety.
The weather was crisp that morning, adding an extra layer of challenge for the firefighters as they worked tirelessly to resolve the situation. Overall, it was a great reminder of how prepared and professional the Chicago Fire Department is, even when initial reports suggest something more serious than it turns out to be.
I hope these images give you a good sense of what happened. Let me know if you have any questions or need further details!
