A signing ceremony for the first passenger ro-ro ship, the “Bohai Gold Pearl,†was recently held in Yantai Port, marking a major milestone in the region's maritime development. The event also celebrated the launch of the “Bohai Pearl†and “Bohai Yuzhu,†two new vessels that are set to enhance transportation and tourism along the Bohai Sea. This significant occasion brought together industry leaders, government officials, and media to witness the official start of construction for these advanced ships.
The “Bohai Gold Pearl†is a state-of-the-art vessel with a total length of 161.2 meters and a width of 24.8 meters. It has a full displacement of 14,000 tons and features an 1,800-meter-long driveway, capable of accommodating over 200 vehicles. The ship can carry up to 1,128 passengers, making it one of the most efficient and comfortable options for cross-sea travel. Its design incorporates cutting-edge technology that fills a domestic gap and sets a new benchmark in the global shipping industry.
Li Kezhen, President of the China Classification Society, highlighted the unique features of the “Bohai Jinzhu†project. He emphasized that the ship’s design takes into account the specific needs of passenger transportation in the Bohai Bay. The vessel integrates several advanced technologies that have not yet been adopted in international maritime conventions. These include specialized channel equipment, lifting platforms, ramp systems, shovel guards, and sealed doors—many of which are being used for the first time in China. This innovation ensures improved safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort.
With this new addition to the fleet, the Bohai Sea region is poised to see a significant boost in both commercial and tourist traffic. The successful completion of these ships marks a major step forward in China’s efforts to modernize its maritime infrastructure and meet the growing demand for reliable and high-quality sea transport.
