Bedford Park Fire Department news and history
I just came across an amazing post on the Bedford Park FD Facebook page. It's such a cool story! Back in 1960, they became pioneers by being the first fire department to get their hands on a brand-new type of vehicle—the Snorkel. Over the years, these trucks didn’t just serve the people of Bedford Park but also helped out neighboring departments whenever needed.
Earlier this week, Truck "Snorkel" 705 was officially taken out of service after an incredible 63-year run. But this wasn't your typical retirement. Instead of sitting idle or getting scrapped, this legendary truck has been sent off on a whole new mission—this time crossing international borders. Truck 705 is now making its way across approximately 5,000 miles to Ukraine. Once there, it’ll join forces with Ukrainian firefighters to protect and serve their communities.
It’s bittersweet saying goodbye to such a storied piece of equipment, but I’m sure it’ll continue to make a huge impact. The Bedford Park FD posted a heartfelt message thanking everyone who benefited from Truck 705 over the decades. They even expressed hope that Ukraine will find as much use and pride in this truck as they did.
Looking at some of the photos, it’s clear how special this vehicle was. From its classic design to all those proud moments captured through the years, it really tells a story. One thing is certain—it won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
I’m glad to see stories like this shared because it highlights the connection between firefighting communities beyond borders. It’s not just about the hardware; it’s about the spirit of service and teamwork that keeps pushing forward, no matter where you are. Thanks to Dennis and Rob for sharing this inspiring update!
As someone who appreciates both history and progress, I can’t help but feel inspired by what Truck 705 represents—a legacy of dedication and adaptability. Whether it’s in Bedford Park or Ukraine, I know this truck will keep doing what it does best: helping people stay safe. That’s something worth celebrating!
