The year was 1960, and something truly remarkable happened that would go on to shape their legacy for the next 63 years! The Bedford Park FD became the very first fire department in the area to receive a brand-new type of vehicle—a Snorkel truck. Over the decades, they had several of these trucks that didn’t just serve the residents of Bedford Park but also assisted neighboring departments during emergencies. This past week, Truck "Snorkel" 705 was officially decommissioned after years of faithful service. And now, this iconic piece of firefighting history is embarking on an incredible journey—a road trip spanning more than 5,000 miles to the country of Ukraine! Once there, Truck 705 will be put into action again, beginning a new chapter in its storied life, one that's far greater than any single department. We hope the people of Ukraine cherish and make use of this truck as it has done for us over the last six decades. Thank you, Truck 705, for the countless memories and the invaluable service you’ve provided.

I can't help but feel emotional thinking about this. Trucks like these aren't just machines—they're symbols of strength, resilience, and community spirit. As someone who grew up watching these trucks roll through town, it’s bittersweet to see one go, especially to such a meaningful cause abroad. I’m glad to hear that Truck 705 will continue to protect lives and property in another part of the world where it’s needed just as much. It’s heartwarming to think that a piece of Bedford Park’s firefighting heritage will now help keep Ukrainians safe.
