2-11 Alarm fire and EMS Plan I, 4-12-15 (more)

This is something I just received from Eric Haak: The fire broke out early Sunday morning (April 12) in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood. Around 0143 hours, a Still & Box Alarm was sounded by the main fire alarm office after receiving reports of people trapped inside a burning building at the intersection of 22nd Street and Wolcott Avenue. The first responding units arrived within a minute of the fire being declared, and upon arrival, they found flames shooting through the roof. By 0145, the fourth battalion chief requested an EMS Plan I activation and reported that the fire had spread to all three floors of the structure. At 0151, 2-2-1 took command of the situation and called for a 2-11 Alarm approximately three minutes later. Just before 0200 hours, firefighters were ordered to evacuate the building due to escalating conditions, and a defensive strategy was implemented. Throughout much of the operation, three master streams were utilized alongside several handlines. Tower Ladder 5 and Engine 23's deck gun were positioned in sector A, while Squad 1A was set up on Wolcott in sector D. Around 0300 hours, the fire had extended into the cockloft of the B-side exposure (as seen in image 5). To bolster firefighting efforts, Tower Ladder 39 was brought in as a fourth master stream. Engines 23, 18, and 39 were all actively pumping water onto the blaze. Thankfully, all 21 residents managed to escape unharmed. Please note that if any details in this account are incorrect, it's because my memory may not be perfect, but I believe this provides a reasonably accurate depiction of events. [Attached are several photos taken by Eric Haak showing the intensity of the fire, including shots of flames bursting through the roof, firefighting operations, and Chicago Fire Department vehicles responding to the scene.]
