2-11 Alarm fire and EMS Plan I, 4-12-15 (more)

This is Eric Haak reporting live from the scene of a devastating fire that broke out early Sunday morning in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood. The incident occurred just after 1:43 AM on April 12th when a Still & Box Alarm was triggered at the Main Fire Alarm Office following reports of people trapped inside a burning building located at the intersection of 22nd and Wolcott Avenue. By the time the first responders arrived within a minute of the alarm being raised, the situation was already dire. Flames had already engulfed the entire structure, spreading rapidly through the roof. Just moments later, at approximately 1:45 AM, the 4th Battalion Chief called for an EMS Plan I activation and confirmed that the fire had spread across all three floors of the building. At 1:51 AM, Command was established, and a decision was made to escalate the response to a 2-11 Alarm just three minutes later. Around 2:00 AM, firefighters were ordered to evacuate the premises due to the increasing danger, and a defensive strategy was implemented. Throughout much of the operation, three master streams and several handlines were utilized to combat the blaze. Tower Ladder 5 and Engine 23 focused their efforts on Sector A, while Squad 1A positioned itself on Wolcott Street in Sector D. As the fire raged on, it wasn't until around 3:00 AM that the flames breached the cockloft on the B side of the adjacent building. In response, Tower Ladder 39 was brought in as an additional master stream. Engines 23, 18, and 39 were all actively involved in pumping water onto the fire scene. Thankfully, all 21 residents managed to escape unharmed, which is nothing short of miraculous given the intensity of the fire. I apologize in advance if any details of this report are incorrect, but based on the information available to me, I believe this to be an accurate account of the events that unfolded. Attached are several images captured by myself, providing a visual record of the devastation caused by the fire. Please note that these photos are property of Eric Haak Photography. Stay safe, everyone.
