Braille signage typically consists of raised characters that can be felt with the fingertips. These characters are embossed onto the sign surface, allowing individuals to read the information using their sense of touch. Braille signage is usually accompanied by visual text and graphics to accommodate individuals with varying degrees of visual impairment. Braille signage is essential for promoting accessibility and inclusivity. It allows individuals with visual impairments to navigate public spaces safely and independently by providing information about room numbers, restroom locations, elevator access, emergency exits, and other important details. Additionally, Braille signage can also include tactile symbols to convey information about specific amenities, such as elevators, staircases, restrooms, or parking spaces.
Working fire in Schaumburg, 7/8/16
I just received this report from Larry Shapiro regarding a recent fire incident:
---
This morning (July 8, 2016), Schaumburg firefighters were dispatched to 809 Holyoke Court following reports of a fire in the laundry room of a split-level home. By the time the first units arrived, smoke was already billowing out of a lower-level window, prompting the dispatchers to upgrade the response to a Code 4 working fire. Once inside, the firefighters quickly identified that the blaze was confined to a single room. They efficiently extinguished the flames and managed to clear out the thick smoke. Backup crews were later stood down.
Interestingly, this isn't the first major fire in the area. Back in March 2011, Schaumburg’s firefighting teams faced a much more intense house fire just across the street. That incident had escalated to a Box Alarm, which typically means it was a particularly severe or widespread emergency requiring additional resources.
Here are some photos taken by Larry Shapiro during the scene:

The situation seems to have been handled well, with the fire being localized and dealt with swiftly. It's always reassuring to see such professionalism in action.
