It’s early Sunday morning, January 17, when Battalion 22 responded to a fire alarm at 618 East 104th Street around 6 a.m. The blaze started in the basement of the building, but thanks to the quick response of the firefighters, it seemed to be under control fairly rapidly. It was a bitterly cold night, with temperatures hovering just above freezing, making conditions tough for everyone involved.
Fast forward a few hours later, and things took a turn for the worse. Just after 11 a.m., Engine 93 arrived at the same address to find a much more serious situation. Upon their arrival, they discovered that the fire had already spread throughout the structure and even made its way up to the roof. The intensity of the flames combined with the sub-zero temperatures created a challenging environment for the firefighters who were working tirelessly to bring the situation under control.
