Powerful, Real-Time Collaboration Becomes a Reality with Autodesk and NVIDIA

This year at Autodesk University, Autodesk and NVIDIA are showcasing the incredible potential of real-time collaboration in design and engineering. With the introduction of NVIDIA Omniverse, professionals in Architecture, Engineering, Construction (AEC), manufacturing, and media & entertainment industries are getting a glimpse into what's next. We see this as a step toward a more connected, efficient, and innovative future — the 'new possible.'

NVIDIA Omniverse: A New Era of Cross-Industry Collaboration

One of the biggest challenges in today’s design world is the lack of seamless communication between different software tools. File formats, proprietary systems, and team silos often create friction, delays, and even roadblocks to progress. But with NVIDIA Omniverse, that’s changing.

Built on Pixar’s open-source Universal Scene Description (USD) format, the platform allows designers, engineers, and creators to collaborate in real time, using their preferred tools. For instance, an architect working in Autodesk Revit can easily collaborate with an interior designer in Autodesk 3ds Max or Maya — all within a shared, photorealistic environment powered by NVIDIA RTX technology.

But this isn’t just about Autodesk. The platform supports integration with a wide range of third-party tools, reflecting Autodesk’s commitment to openness. This flexibility empowers users to tailor their workflows and fosters trust through open standards. It’s not just about making work easier — it’s about improving the entire industry for everyone involved.

A Global Leader in Design, Delivering Real Value

In today’s increasingly remote and distributed work environment, the need for seamless collaboration has never been greater. NVIDIA Omniverse’s open beta offers a powerful solution to accelerate this shift and improve how teams work together globally.

Cobus Bothma, Director of Applied Research at Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF), one of the world’s top architecture firms, has been exploring the potential of the platform. As an early access user, he’s impressed with the direction it’s heading. KPF is known for its expertise in global, distributed design projects, and they’re now looking to enhance their geometrical modeling through high-fidelity visual collaboration across multiple tools.

“The future of architectural design depends on having all design data and geometries accessible in one accurate visualization and simulation tool,” Bothma explains. “NVIDIA Omniverse shows great promise in enabling real-time collaboration across a wide range of applications, no matter where the team is located. This helps build trust among team members and stakeholders, improves decision-making, and ultimately leads to better buildings and spaces.”

Richard Kerris, General Manager of Omniverse at NVIDIA, agrees. “Seeing KPF use Autodesk’s Revit and 3ds Max alongside other tools connected to Omniverse gives us a clear view of how real-time collaboration can speed up decisions and improve project delivery,” he says.

Real-time, photorealistic collaboration is transforming how teams work around the globe. It reduces design iteration delays, enhances understanding, minimizes errors, and makes project delivery faster and more efficient.

The benefits go beyond business efficiency. With remote work becoming the norm, virtual collaboration is essential for maintaining productivity and engagement. Digital models and simulations allow teams to make informed decisions without the need for travel, supporting both a resilient workforce and a more agile business model.

As the NVIDIA Omniverse open beta launches, we encourage our customers to visit the NVIDIA Omniverse website to pre-register for the platform, which will be available later this fall.

We look forward to seeing you at Autodesk University 2020.
