Blind Flanges are manufactured without a bore and used to blank off the ends of piping, Valves and pressure vessel openings.
From the standpoint of internal pressure and bolt loading, blind flanges, particularly in the larger sizes, are the most highly stressed flange types.
However, most of these stresses are bending types near the center, and since there is no standard inside diameter, these flanges are suitable for higher pressure temperature applications.

Oak Park firefighter dies after shift
I just came across some heartbreaking news on the IAFF Local 95 Facebook page. Firefighter/Paramedic Ken Harris has passed away suddenly, and it's really shaken everyone who knew him. The post says they're keeping his family in their thoughts and prayers, and it's clear how much he'll be missed. Kenny's trademark smile and laugh are already deeply missed by those who loved him.
According to Firehouse.com, Firefighter/Medic Kenneth K. Harris, 56, with the Village of Oak Park Fire Department, collapsed after responding to several emergencies earlier in the day. He suffered what appears to be a heart attack after getting home. His final call came less than an hour before the end of his shift, and he was found unresponsive at his home later that evening.
Ken was a beloved member of the community, and these tributes are pouring in from all over. It’s hard to imagine how tough this must be for his colleagues and family. They’re sharing photos and stories to honor his memory, like this one from the IAFF page showing him in action. It's such a stark reminder of the risks firefighters take every single day to protect us.
I can't help but think about how quickly life changes. One moment he was out there saving lives, and the next... well, it's just devastating. I wanted to share this because it feels important to acknowledge not only the loss but also the incredible work firefighters do. Thanks to everyone who shared this info—I'm sure it means a lot to Ken’s loved ones to see so many people coming together to remember him.
Rest in peace, Kenny. Your service and kindness will never be forgotten.
