New apparatus for Glenview
Just got back from visiting the Glenview Fire Department to check out their brand-new quint assigned to Truck 14. It's a significant upgrade from their previous model and is set to be fully operational by June. As mentioned before, the department’s website has already been updated with images of this impressive vehicle. Here are some more detailed shots along with a side-by-side comparison of the older Truck 14, which will now be re-designated as Truck 14R/Truck 29.
The new Truck 14 comes equipped with a 2013 Pierce Arrow XT 1500/450/10/40 105’ rear-mount quint. The truck has undergone several enhancements compared to its predecessor, including a slightly longer wheelbase due to an extended pump panel that now includes a Smart Power 10-KW generator and an XRT power system for the Hurst tools. Another noticeable change is the extended front bumper, which now houses a Hurst high-pressure cutter and spreader with 100’ reels. All the lighting on this truck is LED, and there’s a small tool compartment located behind the cab. Additionally, the new truck features Northfield’s name on the signboard, reflecting their financial contribution toward the purchase of this unit—reportedly $100,000. In return, Truck 14R will be stationed at Northfield Station 29 and operate as Truck 29 during joint responses.
One major difference is the shift from a Pierce Dash cab and chassis to the Arrow XT model, which offers improved ergonomics and comfort for firefighters. The new truck also features shorter barrier clearance doors, making it easier to navigate tight spaces. Interestingly, the design now includes a subtle nod to Northfield, as the signboard displays decals for both Glenview and Northfield.
On another note, Glenview recently added a brand-new ambulance to Station 6. This 2013 Type I Medtec sits on an IHC 4300 chassis, much like the rest of their fleet. What sets this ambulance apart is its modern LED lighting and a unique paint scheme featuring a black border near the roof. This new addition replaces the older 2007 IHC/Medtec, which has now become the spare ambulance. The previous spare, a 2001 Freightliner FL60/Road Rescue, has since been decommissioned.
It’s exciting to see how these updates reflect the department’s commitment to maintaining state-of-the-art equipment while fostering collaboration with neighboring communities. If you’re in the area, it’s worth stopping by to appreciate these fantastic vehicles in person!
