Chicago FD Battalion Chief (ret) Warren Redick (1928-2015)
I recently learned about the passing of Warren Redick, a true legend in the firefighting community. He was the beloved father of Steve Redick, a senior fire alarm operator and respected contributor to sites like chicagoareafire.com. Warren Redick, affectionately known to many, left an indelible mark during his time as a Battalion Chief with the Chicago Fire Department.
Warren Redick was born on November 10, 1928, in Bull Shoals, Arkansas, to Raymond and Myrtle (Baumann) Redick. He lived a long life, reaching the age of 86, and passed away peacefully at home on January 10, 2015. Known for his love of collecting and photography, Warren's passions extended beyond his firefighting career. He is survived by his loving wife, Mildred Redick, and a blended family that includes his son Steve, stepchildren Deanne Evans, Bonnie Hesik, Frank Hesik, and James Dixon, along with several grandchildren.

Warren began his journey in firefighting as a "patrolio," working tirelessly through challenging times without the modern conveniences we take for granted today. Warren served proudly on various companies, including Squad 8, SS1, and Snorkel 2. One of his proudest moments was captaining SS3, where he helped organize the company and witnessed its rapid growth. During his tenure, Warren responded to countless emergencies, including notable events like the Mickleberry Fire and the infamous Milwaukee and Spaulding bowling alley incident, which featured a dramatic rescue captured in a famous photograph.
Despite the dangers of his profession, Warren remained dedicated to serving others until his retirement. His contributions to firefighting and his community were immense, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire those who knew him. All services for Warren were held privately, reflecting the close-knit nature of his family and friends.
