3-Alarm fire in Maywood, 8-17-16 (more)

Wednesday, August 17th, 2016 — I found myself responding to a structure fire in Maywood today. When we arrived, it was already labeled as a third-alarm incident, mostly due to the need for additional manpower and relief. The building involved appeared to be an abandoned, single-story wooden frame house. From what we could see, there was significant fire on the exterior, which might have spread to a small one-story commercial building located nearby in Sector 2. When I first got there, the scene was bustling with activity. There were plenty of firefighters working on the trucks, and it was clear that everyone was hustling to get control of the situation. The photos and a brief video I took from the scene give a good sense of what it was like. You can check them out here. The fire was quite intense, and it took quite a bit of effort to bring it under control. The Hillside Fire Department was also on site, and their equipment, especially the E-ONE Bronto Skylift, played a crucial role in managing the blaze. After the flames were mostly extinguished, the crews moved into overhaul mode to ensure everything was safe and secure. I’ve attached some of the photos I took during the incident. They capture different moments throughout the event, from the initial response to the final stages of cleanup. It’s always challenging to deal with fires, but seeing the teamwork and dedication of everyone involved is inspiring. Steve
