Japan Invents Truck Air Conditioning System Using Solar Cells

ICL, Mitsubishi Chemical, and Furuehau Japan have jointly developed i-Cool Solar, an Idling Stop air-conditioning system that uses solar cells. The verification test and improvement will be conducted in the future and it is scheduled to be listed in the spring of 2012.

ICL was already listed on May 24, 2010 in the "i-Cool" system in which the power charged in the battery during running was used for cab cooling in the state where the engine was stopped. This time, Mitsubishi Chemical's solar cell module was placed on top of the truck compartment using a dedicated docking station in Japan, and i-Cool Solar was combined with i-Cool.

By using i-Cool Solar, it is possible to reduce diesel consumption by approximately 1.8 liters and approximately 1% per hour respectively during parking and driving (10-ton trucks in normal driving conditions). A total of one year can reduce about 1500L of diesel consumption.

In addition, since the battery can maintain a nearly fully charged state, it also has the advantage of using a battery handling device such as a switch that can smoothly operate the lift and wing of the cargo door. Moreover, since the overdischarge of the battery can be reduced, the service life of the battery can also be extended.
