House fire in Wheeling, 1-26-22

This is from Larry Shapiro:

The Wheeling Fire Department received a call about a house fire on Versailles Court just before 8:30 PM on Wednesday, January 26, 2022. The initial response included Glencoe Squad 30, Des Plaines Engine 61, Buffalo Grove Tower 25, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Battalion 51, Mount Prospect Battalion 3, Arlington Heights Ambulance 2, and both Wheeling ambulances. Meanwhile, the rest of the Wheeling fire companies, including chief officers, were at a separate fire in Prospect Heights, just over a mile away. Prospect Heights units were also expected to arrive on the first alarm with Wheeling crews. Des Plaines and Glencoe had been responding from Wheeling stations as they were covering for other departments.

As the fire in Prospect Heights was winding down, command decided to send some units back to assist with the Wheeling incident. A Wheeling engine, chief officers, and Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Squad 51 were redirected. Squad 24 was the first to arrive and initially saw no visible flames. Upon approaching the home on foot, they noticed heavy smoke coming from the house and located a hydrant in the cul-de-sac. The alarm was upgraded to a Working Fire, prompting additional resources such as Mount Prospect Engine 14 and North Maine Engine 1, along with Wheeling Battalion 24, who had just cleared the Prospect Heights scene.

Firefighters discovered a basement fire that was quickly extinguished. However, the fire had spread to the first floor above the basement, creating a hazard for interior crews. The entire house was filled with thick smoke, requiring extensive ventilation to ensure the safety of all personnel involved.
