Car into a pond in Deerfield 1-1-12

Last night, the Deerfield Fire Department responded to a serious incident where a vehicle had crashed into a pond along the 500 block of Lake-Cook Road. Upon arrival, the first police officer on scene was able to climb onto the car’s roof and break out a window to help the driver escape. During the rescue, the officer suffered minor hand injuries from the broken glass. At the time, the driver was unable to confirm whether there were any other people inside the vehicle, leading emergency responders to request the assistance of divers from nearby departments, including Highland Park, Northbrook, Lake Forest, and Lincolnshire. These divers conducted a thorough search of the submerged car and confirmed that no additional occupants were present. Once the area was cleared, the divers secured the vehicle with chains so that a towing company could safely remove it from the water. The entire operation was captured by local photographer Tim Olk, who provided several striking images of the scene. The photos show a late-model Mercedes Benz that had veered off the road and ended up mostly submerged in the pond. One image highlights a Deerfield Police sergeant who sustained cuts while breaking the window to free the driver. Another shows Deerfield Engine 20 responding to the scene, while others depict the divers preparing the car for removal and the tow truck pulling it from the water. Tim has shared a full gallery of these images, offering a detailed visual account of the event. His photos provide a powerful look at the quick response and teamwork involved in this life-saving operation.
