Car into a pond in Deerfield 1-1-12
Last night, the Deerfield Fire Department responded to a serious incident where a vehicle had crashed into a pond along the 500 block of Lake-Cook Road. Upon arrival, the first police officer on scene managed to climb onto the car’s roof and break out a window, successfully helping the driver escape. During the rescue, the officer sustained minor hand cuts while freeing the driver from the submerged vehicle.
At the time, it was unclear whether there were any other people inside the car, based on the information provided by the driver. As a precaution, emergency responders requested the assistance of divers from nearby departments, including Highland Park, Northbrook, Lake Forest, and Lincolnshire. The divers thoroughly checked the vehicle and confirmed that no additional occupants were inside.
Once the area was cleared, the divers attached a chain to the car so that a towing company could safely remove it from the water. The operation took several hours, with multiple fire and police units assisting in the effort.
Tim Olk, a local photographer, captured several striking images of the incident. His photos show the dramatic moment the car ended up in the pond, the firefighter breaking the window, and the subsequent efforts to pull the vehicle out. The images provide a clear visual account of the event, highlighting both the danger and the coordinated response from emergency services.
